Dude #2

Dude # 2 is awesome!  pine carved painted and glitzed, silver, rubber, painted

a few things:
a) the wholes drilled were the same size as the tubing but the wood is so soft it stretched the holes bigger( not good)
b) want to me more adventurous with color!!!
c) stick pin not log enough, well i mean it works but i wanted it to have more fabric gathered in between the two sides

welcome to  the world dude # 2

Molded Bud Project

  Molded bud  with silicone.

Green-  330 epoxy  with green pigment/ had bubbles
White - bees wax/ perfection
Purple- purple carving wax/ bubbles
Black- rubber/ worked but not into it / also had bubbles

I Also did a resin test and vacuumed it but that still had bubbles

these pieces are Zpoxy resin  with electroformed parts
.5 volts for 12 hours and then 1.5 volts for 2 hours

Zpoxy takes about 2 and half hours to cure to a solid working state where  then it can be formed  by hand  and left to set for another 3 to 4 hours where it then become hard enough to sand and file

Total time is about 6 hours

SO my grand plan was that i was going to make huge resin castings  which can be found  at the post
" an attempt"  But I just didn't like them on that scale after all. I tried to add the textile pigment and  they lost their transparent quality. So I am going to move on to using the small scale modes that i made in the beginning, and ditch the  color and just go with it.

my next move it to try and electro form around the castings so that  i can give them an edge.

See that looks great!  but this resin is so brittle that  after it sets its too hard to remove from the void and it cracks. Lame.

The one with the sparkly stones. yeah, dropped it , and it cracked, tried to mask it with the stones but you can stil see it.  These have electroformed edges that i then painted with  epoxy and  textile dye.

 all my molds :) yeah

Tiny caves

Pine carved with bronze inlay. Test # 1
I sprayed shellac on this before i spray painted the top white one, the paint residue is thicker and comes off in big strips rather than it being soaked into the wood

Alter ego

Cut and heat treated vellum. wax. copper. wax thread. faux leather. shellac possibilities

 Alter ego
The manipulation of materials can influence the  way an object speaks to the viewer.  As an craftsman I am in constant search of how I can explore these variations while  learning to value them in their alternative state.

In this work I am interested in creating a gesture, a gesture where in the material takes over and the viewer can understand  it for what the materials inherently speak.  The materials manipulated have only value when actually being worn, by themselves they are stagnant and meaningless.   The body in conjunction with the materials is where my objects come full circle and encompass their full gestural possibilities.

Regroup-Sorting through the samples

In the last week I have made lots of samples I think now its time that I Sort through the frenzy and pick a direction to go with. Thus far my samples have been derivatives of natural objects.  Taking forms, textures and colors from those objects and translating them with different medium "Abstracting "

Things to consider:
-Out of these attributes i have dissected, am i combining them? creating some sort of hybrid object?
- am I abstracting with scale?
- What does it mean to  reinterpret these FTC (forms textures colors) with different media?
-am i creating my own plant life? or life there of?
- what is its relationship to the body ?

this is a plant  at school, the texture is great. I made a mold of this  so that i could make wax molds of the surface texture.  I want to apply this texture to  a form other than the original round shape

Femo clay, imprinted with texture from yellow bud above/ various forms referencing  various plant samples that i have collected and cataloged in            previous posts

I have been drawn to these cave like forms, nodule like forms
this is carved poplar with a surface treatment of Vaseline and pigment (below)
Not sold on application of pigment but im working on it

Not shown in these photos but i have  cast wax impressions of  the nodule recesses  in bronze  that would then be set inside of each.

Grass maybe? other leaf forms
Cast paper with wax overlay
Since the edge of the paper is so thin when These forms are cast  it burns out funny in certain spots giving  a very organic edge

Nervous breakdown

nodule forms

I am drawn to these succulents  that have these nodule forms that  then have these sort of explosive  stems protruding out of them . it just looks very exciting!

color

Color is something i am interested in this time around, it was something i was really lacking in my undergraduate work.  This color and texture can be achieved with the resin and sanding method, id maybe have to carve little protrusions  so that they would be more exposed when i sanded.

plant abstracts

Today after my 9 hours frenzy to make a sample into a finnished piece for the grad show i came to some conclusions

a) that this was a stupid idea
b) that maybe my plant abstracts are turning into me creating my own fictitious plant life of some sort
c) that i need to listen to more of this G6  This makes me wanna put glitter on everything

oh and i need to get some foam, lots of it

pine potato chips

 abstract nature studies

- to reference attributes of natural objects
-either enhance those qualities, or try to reference  those attributes in another medium uncommon to  nature.

I'm working on these carved leaf forms  that will then be dipped in plastic and painted.
- lightness to the work
- trying to upscale these leaf forms that i am referencing.
just started these, we will see where it goes.

if all else fails ill make a potato chip necklace

whyyyy

frosted vellum sheet
- heated
-dipped in 1.5 parts bees wax 1 parts paraffin wax
-sprayed with varnish

coated 1, 2, 3 and 4 times

4 coates too heavy

2 or 3 seem to have the best weight
1 coat isn't enough
